LITHUANIAN PRESENTATION:

Inclusion – how to bring the good practices to your communities?

  • In the beginning we presented the flow of the workshop and started with a small task in the groups of three where they had to differentiate four terms - exclusion, segregation, integration and inclusion with their own understanding.

  • After this we presented the existing definitions of all these four terms, mostly focusing on the slight differences between integration and inclusion. Participants were also asked to contribute with their own associations what inclusion means to them.

  • We also invited the participants to share their own personal experience of the most inclusive activity/project/event/etc they have ever taken part in and try to name the aspects why it was inclusive.

  • Afterwards, we talked about three ways of getting to know inclusion ;:

     1) learning ABOUT inclusion – gaining the basic knowledge what inclusion is         and understand why it is important. As an example we told about a day with         refugees in Rukla refugee camp in Lithuania in 2017; it was part of youth             exchange “Bridges Not Walls: Inclusion

        2) learning FOR inclusion - learning exact tools and methods which you              plan to use to make your environment more inclusive and diverse. We                  presented the “Living Library” method as a great example of that.

       3) learning THROUGH inclusion - involving underrepresented groups into           decision making/implementation process as contributors. Great example of          that was a Study Session “Sustainable Development Goals and Youth             with  Disabilities: What We Can Do?” which took place in France in                  2022.

  • Throughout all the workshop the participants were encouraged to share their thoughts and ask questions.

  • We concluded our workshop with the main takeaway that inclusion requires time, effort and empathy, but it always pays off. With this note we closed the session with a small mindfulness exercise „Just like me“.
